Why does Stainless Steel Rust

Stainless steel is a widely used stainless and heat-resistant steel. They are used in food production equipment, Xitong chemical equipment, nuclear energy, etc. The anti-rust mechanism of stainless steel is that alloy elements form a dense oxide film to prevent further oxidation. So stainless steel is not "stainless steel". Stainless steel materials can rust, which may be caused by the following reasons.

1. The chloride ions may in the service environment

The chloride ions is in salt, sweat, seawater, sea breeze, soil, etc., they would cause rapid corrosion of stainless steel. Therefore, the stainless steel product needs to be wiped frequently to remove dust and keep it dry.

2. No solution treatment

The alloying elements of stainless steel are insoluble in the matrix, resulting in low alloy content and poor corrosion resistance of the matrix.

3. This titanium-free and niobium-free material has a natural tendency to intergranular corrosion. They would be stabilized by the addition of titanium and niobium, which can reduce intergranular corrosion.
