Marking of Stainless Steel

There are many types of stainless steel, and their identification are different. The following is a brief understanding of the identification methods of stainless steel:


1. Austenitic stainless steel are marked with 200 and 300 series.

2. Ferritic and martensitic stainless steel are marked with 400 series. Such as 201, 304, 316, and 310.

3. Ferritic stainless steel is marked with 430 and 446, and martensitic stainless steel is marked with 410, 420 and 440C.

4. Stainless steel, precipitation hardening stainless steel and high alloys with iron content less than 50% are usually named by patent names or trademarks.

How to Distinguish 201 and 304 Stainless Steel Plate

1.   304 stainless steel plate   is shiny and has a good gloss with smooth touching, while 201 stainless steel plate is dark and has no gloss with rough uneven touching.
